As I imagine you know by now, Hurricane Irene took vengeance on the entire North East with the worst storm to hit us in over 100 years!!! On Sunday, August 28th, at 7 am, Hurricane Irene too a direct flight through Highlands, NJ, fondly known as Death HQ….. Our main office took on about three feet of water, and as of this moment we still have no power. The entire Jersey Shore as well as those to the North and West have been severely impacted with record flooding and no power at all…..
Ok, so that’s what happened, but here’s what’s happening……In case you didn’t know it already, I am a Jersey Boy with some serious ass fire in my belly, not to mention blessed to be surrounded by some amazing people. We have been working night and day since last Thursday (moving our office out and keeping everything in a climate-controlled environment prior to the flooding. Fortunately, the water didn’t make it to the height of the warehouse – it’s built four feet higher than the office. I want to say a HUGE thank you to the meteorologists who predicted this storm with great precision, to News 12 for their round-the-clock coverage, and to our great Governor Chris Christie, who has shown leadership for Jersey. You can bet that all of us in the Garden State are already building back better than ever!
While the storm has caused significant damage, I feel so much for those all over the North East who don’t have the ability to rebuild themselves and have lost everything. I will do whatever I can to help those around me, even if it’s a simple hello, and a bottle of sauce….. To those like my friend Jack in Joplin, MO, who is a real ChiliHead (and still working on getting life back together in the tornado ravaged town of Joplin) offering his assistance to us just hours after Irene left. I could tell you about so many amazing chilipals from around the globe who have reached out with their support. To all of you, I say a Huge Thank You!
Also, I know you know I just write as I speak and say F the grammatically correct nonsense. We are all well her, and yes, in fact, better than ever. And no it’s not been easy and yes of course it’s been stressful. But, you can guarantee it’s gonna take a lot more than a chick named Irene to stop me. FU Irene!!! I say it again, FU Irene!
My amazing Chilihead Crew and I are putting up new walls and floors with help as you read this….. All of your orders and emails have been received as normal. Our computer network and website were moved to a secure location days before Irene came to town (though I don’t know what box the fax machine is in. It’s funny but still to this day we get a dozen or so hand written faxed orders per week. That’s awesome!!). So, we might just need some extra time to get back to you, but I promise we will.
All I can say is Thank You for being you!
With Much Respect and Passion,…..Feel Alive!!!!
